The Indonesian government plans to be more strictly regulate the recruitment of foreigners who wish to work in Indonesia. This will help the country avoid an influx of foreigners, mainly unskilled, flocking in Indonesia with the beginning of the Economic Community of ASEAN (AEC) this year.
Even before the AEC entered into force on 1 January this year, an increasing number of foreign workers, especially from China, had entered the country. Now that the ACS is in force, it is feared that many more will come, and the local workers feared their jobs will be replaced, evident in Labour Day marches held in the capital on May 1
in a statement to Koran Tempo Maruli Hasoloan, a representative of the Ministry of Manpower, said the government was still working on the revision of existing regulations regarding foreign workers. He disclosed that the revised regulations include new elements to ensure that foreign workers seeking to work in Indonesia is highly qualified. It will also be clear which foreign sectors can work and what jobs can go to them.
"They will not be workers on the ground because we can provide these workers," said Hasoloan.
The Ministry of Manpower will explain the regulations updated including the consequences for any violations made by convening business leaders who employ foreigners. the officials noted that the violation of these rules will result in being fined up to Rp imprisonment. 400 million or one to four years.
