I was an active user of smartphones since I got my first Treo 180 in 2002. All devices I owned were the basic functions such as email and calendar and contacts, but 10 years later, I find myself with my phone and tablet for things I never would have imagined a few years ago. Here is my list of what is to keep me busy these days:

1. Carcassonne

Believe it or no, I do not spend time playing games on my iPad. Well, almost no time, because there is an exception: Carcassonne. This is one of the most beautiful and interesting games on the App Store and networking options are the best I've had. It was originally a board game like Monopoly, but last year some extremely talented developers brought to iOS devices. It features a chat function really well too and you can play against up to four other people. I play regularly with my friends in Singapore and once in a while I still wins.

2. Glympse

This is an application I really find myself using more and more. It answers the simple question: where are you? In this city where people get stuck in traffic on an hourly basis, so it is useful to look at their movements. also works great for people who are not familiar with the city - you can quickly troubleshoot their route and set them on the right path. It is super easy to use and works on most mobile devices. And it is free.

3. Spotify

My friend James told me about Spotify there a year, but it was only available in Europe at that time. It launched in the US a few months ago that I am able to enter an account and give it a try. This application completely replaced the iPod feature on my iPhone and it's the only thing I use to listen to music. I discovered tons of new music, and rediscovered tons of early music (anyone remember Alphaville?). It costs USD10 per month for the ability to stream 18 million songs, and it is really worth.

4. Airbnb

This is a very nice application and showing some amazing places to rent around the world. You rent directly from the owners, but it is not as sordid as CraigsList or other services. It is really easy to use and I found a really cool shophouse to stay in when we go to Penang next month. There are many places in Jakarta and for those looking for something a little more than a kos, but less than a full hotel room. Everything is geocoded so it's a snap to find a place to stay near you or around a specific area. It is free to use, but you pay a small fee when you make a reservation.
