Dr. Andri is the owner of Neu Prime Dentistry, which has two branches in Jakarta. He explains his business philosophy to us, and how New Prime uses new technologies to help patients.
Dr. Andri, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. What you want to open your own dental practice?
I feel dentistry is an art: we dentists can change someone's appearance by designing the shape and position of their teeth. I am also passionate about making patients without fear of going to the dentist. And finally, because of technological advances in dentistry, it is exciting that patients no longer have to wait long to change their appearance.
How many clinics do you have now and where can they be found?
We have two clinics in Jakarta now. Neu Prime Dentistry is on Jl. Asia Afrika in Senayan City, the Panin Tower, and the other, named Digital Dental Clinic, is in the east tower, Mega Kuningan.
Many people are petrified of going to the dentist and avoid going until it's too late. What technological advances have improved the quality of treatment and pain management for patients today?
Nowadays, with the latest clinical techniques and technologies such as laser dentistry, it is possible to have a painless dental treatment. Patients should not be afraid to come to our clinic for dental procedures, so there is no need to delay treatment until it is too late. A simple procedure that regular descaling (cleaning) can really improve dental health.
You offer "no pain" and services "minor trauma" - Can you explain how it is possible for a tooth extraction, which can be extremely painful
The dental extraction is a two-step procedure. First, the specific tooth and surrounding tissues are numb with anesthetics. Once the tooth is numb, it will no longer produce the sensations of pain. With proper application techniques, patients feel no pain during the anesthetic procedure. Second, with the correct gentle handling, teeth can then be removed with minimal trauma. In this way, all the extraction procedure will be minimal trauma and pain free.
What is laser dentistry?
Laser dentistry is the use of laser lights in the dental treatment. It can be an accurate and efficient way to perform many dental procedures. It allows treatments on very specific areas of focus without damaging surrounding tissue. Laser dentistry gives comfort to the anxious dental patients because the procedures can be performed without pain with little or no bleeding. Some of the benefits of laser dentistry are the requirements for small sutures; faster healing wounds and bleeding and minimized risk of bacterial infections. Laser treatments can provide pain therapy also, for example for patients TMJ (jaw joint) problems.
Where are your patients primarily and what are the main problems you encounter?
As a pioneer and a leader in the use of dental German advance technologies in Asia and Indonesia, our clinic is recognized as the first dental clinic here to use these methods. Therefore, our patients are predominantly expats. The main problems we see involve patients requiring treatment, but without pain; in a sterile environment with advanced technology, quick service and perfect results.
Your mouth is key to the overall health of the body. Taking care of your teeth is not just to have a beautiful smile and pleasant breath. Your mouth is the gateway to your body: the bacteria that forms on teeth gums makes them prone to infection. The immune system moves to attack the infection and the gums are inflamed. The inflammation continues unless the infection is under control. Sometimes the inflammation does not clear properly. The result of inflammation of the gums is intense that it also affects the bloodstream and slowly believed to damage the blood vessels in the heart and the brain during a long period of time.
Over time, inflammation and releases chemicals that eat away the gums and bone structure that hold teeth in place. The result is a severe gum disease, known as periodontitis name.
periodontitis or gum disease has been linked to a variety of other health problems, including heart disease and heart attacks, diabetes and control, stroke, and also for rheumatoid arthritis . In the worst case, this can actually be fatal.

Is teeth whitening 100 percent sure?
The generally teeth whitening is 100 percent safe. That said, it is advisable to consult with your dentist. There are so many teeth whitening products on the market, with different application methods. Our dentists can help determine the appropriate tooth whitening product and the method for you, and explain what kind of preparations are needed, and what to expect afterwards.
What are oral treatments should we avoid, if any?
Generally, we advise patients to avoid the extraction of the tooth, unless the tooth can not be treated by any other means. Once a tooth is extracted, it can potentially cause more problems. Post-extraction, the bone is no longer supporting the tooth root, where it will be "absorption" with adjacent teeth begin to tilt created empty space. Once this happens, the patient's normal occlusion can begin to change and potentially cause TMJ problems, which in turn can cause headaches, jaw and neck pain, ringing in the ears, and more. We always advise our patients, before extraction of the tooth, to consider a replacement of teeth as dental implant to prevent bone resorption.
Most of us are aware that we need to brush twice a day and flossing regularly for optimum oral health. What should we do?
You can try an interdental tool based on water such as Waterpik. And, of course, visit the dentist and dental hygienist regularly for cleaning and check-ups!
What are the challenges you face running a dental clinic in Indonesia?
Dentists face incredible challenges now. They must do a lot of good things: to provide optimal patient care; keeping up with the latest clinical techniques and technologies; managing a practice; lead a team, and operating a successful business. The technology is also growing rapidly, and dentists must choose carefully to enjoy and make it a success. You can expose you to many techniques and technologies, but that does not mean you want to apply all your practice.
